In third grade, my elementary school's sorry excuse for a music class tried to teach us how to read sheet music. As I remember it, the mnemonic device they used for the lines was "Elvis' Guitar Broke Down Friday." The mnemonic device they used for the spaces in between the lines was something like "If it's in a space, spell out FACE."
Anyway, when I was teaching myself guitar, I wanted to memorize what note each string played with standard tuning. Using that early mnemonic device, I came up with "Elvis' Aspic Dessert Gave Ben E. coli." And it worked.
